It lies between the Tibetan and Huangtu plateaus, and borders Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, and Ningxia to the north, Xinjiang and Qinghai to the west, Sichuan to the south, and Shaanxi to the east. The Yellow River passes through the southern part of the province.
I had this trip from 29/9/2013 to 7/10/2013.
Why to go?
Gansu province is one of the best places I visited in China.
For me this province is very interesting because you can find many different landscapes(like desert and tibetan area) and different etnic group, like Tibet, Uiguri , Mongolian and others.
Gansu situated along the silk road, it was an economically important province, as well as a cultural transmission path. Temples and Buddhist grottoes such as those at Mogao Caves ('Caves of the Thousand Buddhas'). You visit also the Greatwall .Zhangye you can visit a extraordinary geopark.
In Xiahe you can find the second most important monastery for the buddism, Labrang monastery.
